Tufted perennial to 80 cm tall with short hairs. The leaves are mostly basal and markedly dimorphic, ranging from sword-shaped to incised. The white to mauve flowers occur in heads on a peduncle from August to February. The calyx has 5 long needle-like protrusions.

This species is indigenous, but occurs throughout Africa, Europe and Asia.

Distribution in the Hex

Rocky slopes of Hex River Arid Alluvium Fynbos.
