Moraea flaccida

groottulp, rooitulp

Cormous (swollen underground stem) geophyte up to 60 cm. Bears a single linear, channeled leaf. Flowers (August to October) orange-salmon with a yellow centre. Tepal (no distinction between petals and sepals) claws form a wide, shallow cup.

M. flaccida is similar to M. miniata, but has only one leaf. It is also similar to M. bifida, but has long tepal claws forming a cup.

Distribution in the Hex

Gravel flats in De Doorns Renosterveld Karoo. Sandstone flats in Hex River Arid Alluvial Fynbos.
